EcoGirls Innovate has officially launched a transformative STEM Mentorship Program designed to empower young girls across underserved communities through science, technology, engineering, and mathematics education. The initiative aims to bridge the gender gap in STEM careers while inspiring the next generation of female innovators, environmental leaders, and technology professionals.
The launch event brought together educators, environmental advocates, students, volunteers, and community leaders for a day filled with inspiration, practical demonstrations, and interactive learning experiences. Participants engaged in discussions centered around innovation, sustainability, leadership, and the importance of equal opportunities in education.
According to the Executive Director of EcoGirls Innovate, the mentorship program was created in response to the growing need for female representation in STEM-related industries across Africa.
“Too many brilliant young girls are denied access to opportunities simply because of their environment, financial limitations, or lack of mentorship. EcoGirls Innovate exists to change that narrative,” she explained during the opening ceremony.
The program pairs young girls with experienced mentors working in fields such as:

- Environmental science
- Software engineering
- Renewable energy
- Robotics
- Healthcare technology
- Climate research
- Data science
Participants will receive monthly mentorship sessions, practical project-based learning opportunities, career guidance workshops, and environmental leadership training. The organization also plans to provide internet access and digital learning resources for selected participants from low-income communities.
One of the major highlights of the launch event was the hands-on innovation workshop where students built simple solar-powered lighting models using recycled materials. Facilitators explained how renewable energy technologies can provide sustainable solutions for communities with limited electricity access.

The mentorship program also focuses heavily on confidence-building and leadership development. Many young girls in marginalized communities struggle with self-esteem due to social stereotypes that discourage female participation in technical careers. EcoGirls Innovate hopes to create a safe and encouraging environment where girls can confidently explore their abilities.
Teachers and parents who attended the event praised the organization for investing in young girls and creating opportunities that could positively impact entire communities.
“This is more than just science education,” one parent stated. “This is giving girls hope, direction, and belief in their future.”
The organization plans to expand the mentorship initiative to additional regions in the coming year, with a long-term goal of establishing EcoGirls STEM Innovation Hubs across Africa.
EcoGirls Innovate believes that empowering girls with knowledge, mentorship, and environmental awareness is one of the most effective ways to create sustainable social transformation and economic growth.
